Established in 2016, Dr David Day and Neil Richardson created Chesterfield-based cyber security company Samurai Security. Working within the digital sector, it offers services for cyber security assessments, system penetration testing, incident response support, security training support and guidance on compliance.

For the few years they have been operational, Samurai Security have experienced continued growth through the expansion of their client-base, and as a result now has six employees.

Why engage with Enscite?

Dr David Day, Managing Director of Samurai Security, described how the company had identified a need to improve their marketing and overall presence online, but had struggled to find a private sector solution to this challenge that would offer sufficient return on investment. However, whilst attending a Chamber of Commerce event David was informed about the Enscite programme.

After an initial one-to-one meeting with a business engagement advisor and an informal diagnostic and needs assessment, David felt Samurai had a greater understanding of the business needs and what support it could access through the project.

“The initial engagement was seamless, there was some form filling but nothing arduous. It made us realise some new avenues we could explore with the support.”

David felt that the marketing activities undertaken through the programme would support the increasing growth of the company and future trajectory of sales.

What was the impact of Enscite?

Through the project, Tracy Powell, Digital Marketing Programme Leader at the University of Derby provided bespoke support to Samurai Security. This consisted of a full review of the website and mapping what was important to the business and addressing the needs.

The support started with the production of a series of videos; content which included general advertising, instructive training and guidance on compliance. These would all help market the company to potential clients on the Samurai Security website.

“They helped us develop and structure the content and production of these videos, which we could then incorporate onto our website.”

As a result of the support received, including the new materials and improvements, Samurai Security has experienced softer impacts, improved online presence and increased confidence in its ability to market the business. The videos are a great tool to utilise on the Samurai website to attract prospective clients, and therefore the business is keen to develop more in the future. The improvements to the website have ensured that a consistent message is delivered to clients and prospective clients.

“We now have an increased confidence in our marketing tools available to us.”

What was the companies experience of Enscite?

Samurai Security were very positive about the whole support package and found it be of high quality. As a free support service to businesses, David felt that many businesses based in the region could benefit from this support, particularly the marketing element.

“We believe the quality of support provided by University of Derby was great. We couldn’t have asked for more. We wouldn’t have developed the videos and the website without the project, therefore none of the impacts mentioned would have occurred without their support.”

David stated how they would be very keen to work with a University again and access more marketing support in the future.

“I would recommend the programme to other businesses, as a free, high quality service a lot of business cannot turn it down.”
